[edit] History

[edit] School

Established in 1960, Castle High School acquires their name after the owner of the land the high school was built on, John H. Castle. Castle joined the Southern Indiana Athletic Conference in 1964. They played in the small school division (Division B, later called 2A) until 1978, when they moved up to Division 3A.

[edit] Coaching

Current

Doug Hurt is a Castle high school football alumni and was a member of 1994 5A State Championship team. He earned All-State and All-S.I.A.C. honors. He went on to play college football at Indiana State University. Once he graduated from ISU he returned to Castle and spent time as an assistant coach until earning the head coaching job in 2006.

Historical

John Lidy coached 9 + grade at Castle in 1968. Went to US Army between 1969 and 1972. Returned to Castle in 1972. Became Head Coach in 1973 to 2002. He celebrated his 200th career victory Oct. 26, 2001 as the Knights defeated Evansville North 48-7 in Class 5A Sectional 8. The following year he would end his 29th season as Head Coach with the Knights to finish with a 209-112 record and their first SIAC title in 2002 since 1984. Though they came close in 1994, their consolation was a Class 5A State Championship...not too bad.
Coaching Honors:
IFCA Coach of the Year in 1982. Was 14-0 in 3A Championships. 5A State Champions in 1994. Was Assistant Coach of South All Stars in 1976. Was Head Coach of the South All Stars in 1983, 1995
